Missouri Southern State University, commonly referred to as MSSU, in Joplin, Mo., envisions a facility that embodies innovation in health and life sciences education while warmly welcoming prospective students, families, and the community. The new Roy Blunt Health Science Innovation Center completes the campus Oval, creates a pedestrian-friendly environment, and serves as the university鈥檚 new front door.

The $37.6 million, 68,400-SF facility is home to both the College of Health, Life Sciences & Education and the Campus Welcome Center. In partnership with Corner Greer Architects, our design for this center harmonizes with the international style of architecture prominent on campus while delivering a transformative space that fosters immersive learning and connection to the community.

At the heart of the Roy Blunt Health Science Innovation Center is a state-of-the-art simulation hospital equipped with real-world hospital training spaces. By immersing students in dynamic, realistic clinical settings on campus, the facility enhances all aspects of medical education and fosters greater interdisciplinary collaboration. These spaces, connected by a large two-story atrium to the Campus Welcome Center, offer students and the community the opportunity to witness health and life science learning and research in action.

College of Health, Life Sciences & Education

This building contains several spaces for a simulated hospital including operating, exam, and care rooms. The building also includes a radiologic technology lab suite, a cadaver laboratory suite, a virtual reality clinical training center, and a collaborative research laboratory. In addition, there are two anatomy and physiology teaching laboratories to support their growing student enrollment.

Campus Welcome Center

Within this building is a large, multi-purpose community meeting room, an immersive campus tour kick-off room, caf茅, office of advancement, and a library lounge.

We are providing architecture, interiors, mechanical, electrical, and structural engineering, laboratory planning, programming, landscape architecture, high performance design, concept design, budget development, block plan, and massing services in collaboration with Corner Greer Architects.
